The EKKA

the cable ride over the Ekka

What the heck is the ekka?? Everybody was talking about the ekka....it means exhibition, an exciting week here in Brissi, especially for kids. It's like a huge "Volksfest" but not only with all the rides,

they also have animal shows, different competitions

that was quite impressive how quickly they chopped those trunks, especially the ones that had to work their way up to the top. They even choped the holes for their "steps" themselves.... they were swinging these huge axes like feathers....and the men were such units, massive fellows

like horseriding, "tree-choping" - forgot the term LOL, so it's quite a big thing. Its origin comes from the rural area as far as I've understood. The farmers bring all their animals for assessing who has the best and fittest and that sort of stuff.

We went there with Sally and Shaun. Sally trains with me Beachvolleyball- I'm not training at the moment though :( - and Ryan probably plays next season with Shaun. Sally was superexcited, Shaun only "allowes" her to go to the ekka every 2 years- haha- and she just went off and showed me -the ekka-virgin- around and introduced me to all the must-haves.

It's really good fun but bloody expensive,pf. There was a huge hall where you can get showbags, no not only showbags, SHOWBAGS, that's apparently THE thing to go to or better to buy at the ekka. All sorts of different brands for sweets (ALL of them), drinks, footy teams, magazines....just everything....offer their very showbags. What they are? Well, actually they are "only" plastic bags with 2 chocis, a lolly, a drink or whatever combo from that brand and then you can say you have a SHOWBAG from Cadbury (Aussi-Milka) for example....:-O cool, ay =)

"Bertie Beatly" is the king under the showbags, it's only some sort of chocolate with some honeycomb crunchies in it and you can't get this during the year, so...REAL special :) everytime I called it "just" chocolate I earned angry looks. Alltogether I couldn't quite understand the fuss about these showbags because you can buy most that stuff in the supermarket...weird...but on our way home in the train everybody was carrying these masses of showbags- must be an Aussie thing.

What you couldn't miss either, was a strawberry sunday...soft-ice-cream with strawberries on the bottom.

And as a savoury must-have there are the Pluto Pups, which are a kind of sausage- thing on a stick and you have it with tomato-sauce- pretty greasy actually but "ekkaish" :-P

spotto....a bavarian flag and "The grill" representing German food, they had sausages and sauerkraut, super exciting- haha- not for me, I wanted my "drei im weckla" ;) nothing can beat nürnberger bratwürste....no way

Thanks Sally it was an aweomse day/night, finally some more Aussie- "culture" Maybe we can sneak out next year and go without the boys LOL

What a welcome

I just loved this....so cute and so nice... We left it there for a couple of days because I liked it so much

and a lot of nice presents and ballons in our room...that was overwhelming.
sooo surprised :-O

DANKE RYAN xoxo

Surpriiiiise

On the second weekend in Oz, Ryan told me he ordered a table, so we got ready but before that he had to help his mum moving something...on a saturday nicht....i didn't think it was weird or anything, of course not, my name is Anna - Haha. Well so we went inside, there was a lot of BBQ stuff in the kitchen an I only thought "uh, they probably have a BBQ" and then Ryan is like "Anna, can you come outside and give me a hand" still didn't have a clue and with my first step outside the backyard a huge table full of people yelled "suprisssse Anna, happy 21st" OH MY GOD, what a massive huge suprise and I so did not think about that and really was 100% suprprised. All the relatives, like grandparents, sister, brother, aunty, friends...they were all there. And I even got presents, I was stunned because the whole thing was the biggest present ever! Thank you Ryan again, it was superbe! We had a huge BBQ with everything, drinks and then suddenly the lights went off and Ryan came with this awesome birthdaycake and 21 candles... :-O wow...

not that one cake was enough, he also got two very yummy other cakes from the cheesecakeshop-mhmm.

it was just perfect, the whole evening. So Ryan was not at work that Saturday morning, he prepared my birthday party!

Facebook

I have a lot of time, update my homepage often, e-mail you guys regularly and can study relaxed, have free time....NOT.....but I did get registered in facebook- the very original studivz- and now I can start to expand my network here in Australia. It's good because now I can get to know even more people in my course and stuff, it's awesome and just a another distraction you always welcome when you actually should study....ah hang on...gotta check homepage, gotta check mails, uh and there is facebook, mhmmm maybe there is something new happening on studivz....haha!
So if anybody of you is there as well, search me....

At the moment, I'm pretty stressed because I already have the midsemester exam in anatomy- the hardest and most scarry subject- which is worth 45%, that's just huuuuge but just gotta study. If it was `just`...I'm havin troubles to get motivated but I'm doing a fair bit, so that should be enouhg hopefully!! And the week after we have another 2 exams, one of them about creating a training and proper exercises and another prac about a lot of muscle tests. There is one special movement and position you can make to test and assess a muscle totally isolated. pretty awesome. But it's kinda hard to remember all the techniques, especially because I missed like three quarter of them but I hope I will manage that with a lot of practice after anatomy and a bit of common sense. Slowly, we feel more like physios because it's gettiing more and more realistic and complex with all the different scenarios. So much for today, gotta go to bed....hope you guys are all doing well. I actually miss you quite a lot so you can always call in the evenings, I'd love it! Love, your Anna

Yeah it does....even if I winge at the moment due to the scarry upcoming exams next week *scream*

Oma und Opa

"Prost"
When we had lunch together in Kronach we all indulged typical German food with roast, dumplings. I had Spätzle....they are more swiss though....they are like a special type of pasta, baked with very tasty cheese and fried onion- soo good.

this picture is for my dad as he really likes that shot

Mhmm

While I was home I saw a lot of my relatives...one of them my godmother Brigitte. We had such a yummy dinner in the garden and just an awesome time as we haven't seen each other in a while. Thanks for everything, Patin!

Volleyball girls

On a very nice and warm sunny day the whole team from Nürnberg where I used to play indoor came together on a huge grassland next to a beer garden and indulged pizza and fresh made caiprinha out of a stein....as it was an awesome day the fresh cold caipi just ran down like water.

yummo! this time I'm not calling it a huuuuge pizza....these would probably just be enough for 3 guys, ay?

from the left: Chrissi, Elke, Kim, me, Dani and Barbara...aren't we an extraordinary pretty team? haha

yeah, we know how to drink cocktails....huuuuge- here I can use that term? ;-)

My 21st

Anja and me over a delicious cheese+rucola pizza

my Volleyball- friends

My brother Felix in the blue shirt, we look kinda similar don`t we? Never really noticed. People always only thought I was him on the phone when we were younger- weird!

some more duties

we are just the best...can you see how shiny the bench is? Well if you really wanna face it, we are just the ones who have to clean up the mess from every body else, and it always is a hell of a mess, you wouldnt believe it...

we also have to take care of our three dozen babie- eggs

give them a long nice bath and "change their nappies"....and then (S)MASH them and mix with mayo- HAHA

full in action

we also battle when it comes to distribute the duties....we are really skilled with chasing each other around using our powerful vinegar and even more especially THE ultimative sanitiser ;) that gives one trouble breathing- HAHA....

waaaaaaaaaaaaatch out....i will catch ya..........IIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

That's what you gonna encounter if you lose the battle of the sanetiser hunt...tooo bad...ohhh...HEHEHEHE.... you only have to dive into these sink, water half a meter deep, because its filled up with dirty dishes and the water could be used to fry the food in, so greasy it is. But why should you wash the stuff or change the water if there are two crazy foreigners coming in the arvo shift. yes right, i dont see any reason either :-P so just pull up your shirt, dive in, maybe meet some shark-like-knives- remember when I told you about the bloody sharp knives here- and then eventually find the plug.....you could usually feed an army with the food that we always find in there- YUMMOOOO :) well, just don't loose the battle.

and then we are all good again.... :) nice and innocent......from the outside......HEHEHEHEHEHE......only until the next battle

Ok so that was another nonsense- article ;) But apparently you've read it =) Maybe something more exciting happens soon....

done, finito, ferdisch- WOOHOOOO!!!!

I still kinda can't believe it but I did it, that was my first semester on the University of Queensland in Brisbane and I think I passed everything....of course I have to wait for the results but I think I did quite well in most of them :) I'm actually proud of myself, I honestly thought I will struggle much more...but I work really hard, I guess twice as hard as I thought it would be. In my Psyc exam I could tell that it wasn't in my mother tongue because the sentences were so complicated sometimes that I had to read over a couple of times and there were also a few words I didn't know the very exact meaning of what in that exam- multiple choice- was kind of important. Sometimes when I read through the answers I thought "Dooo" for me they all mean the same....ok Anna, just read it again and look for this little tricky difference that will lead you to the answer, you won't trick me.... Eventually I could answer everything, even if I had to guess sometimes, but hey, nobody is perfect, right? The fact, that I would be finished after that, made my excitement exploding so that my concentration was fading and fading and....party tonight....woooooohoooooooo...and fading and GONE ;) alright, I raised my arm and handed my papers in. DONE! Lets get outta here....GOOOOOOO! There's something else I wanted to tell you what was quite impressive for me. In this hall, there were over 1000 students.....it took me a while to find my seat and then you could only see scared faces all around you. It was just massive. Probably something very common for you who have studied a while but for me it was something new :-O I nearly could smell the intelligence and clever thoughts, floating around with the desperation and heavy breath of some others..... ROFL

After the exam I went to Kelly's (yellow jumper) place in a college and we just did....what do you reckon....NOTHING, NIENTE, NISCHTS....Sara came over, we were even too lazy to cook, thus bought Pizza, put our legs up and watched DVD without any thinking :) It took us a while to defrost because as soon as we were sitting we were kinda restless because we felt guilty and like rushing back home to study.

In the evening we went to Sara's place and guess what, we had a BBQ. Sounds normal, well, remember that I told you that it's unusual cold here at the moment? Didn't really matter, you can't keep Aussies inside, they HAVE to be outdoors and consequently we had our sausages, cold drink- HAHA- while bibbering :) Still quite enjoyable and at some stage we went inside- Thank God =) And they all wonder why I'm cold, as a German but the answer is simple: when it gets that cold back home we just don't go outside or easily heat the room we are in....on the pic above it's Sara, Mischa, Kelly, Anna and Martha! We had such a great night together- fantastic =)

Well Sara, not too sure what to write here actually......hm....suits you :-P

HIHI picture SMILE

I thought I'd be smashed after two drinks because I haven't drunk in sooooooooooooo long but I was pretty surprised. We had shit loads of drinks and also mixed quite through, ended up with Tequila shots but as the picture tells you 'still standin' LOL

A nice picture of my lovely girls sara, kelly and martha and NOT me :-/hello mr double chin, "so rovery to scheee you again" well you can't be pretty all the time, hay ;)

That's Sara's housemate, Sane, not too sure about the spelling - oops. The moustache kind a suits him, doesn't it? We went to a Belgium Cafe where they sell all sorts of beer, see, it does have a froth. Aussies usually don't have any froth on top of their beers- pf- you still gotta learn a LOT about beer and the RIGHT way to drink it HAHA come to the Oktoberfest.... This picture is a bit scarry I think? Don't I look really old here? Wuaaahhhhh....so neat and...mature......urgggggg :) I think I need to cut my hear, need something more fancy I think. That's a bit boring and.....I don't know. I guess most of you guys are thinking "oh well, finally she IS crazy" right now, don't you ;)

and here it's Sara with her other flatmate next to her, Marc. He has been to Germany for an exchange and hence can speak a bit of German. One of the other guys looked up a sentence once "Wo ist denn der ganze Käse geblieben" - don't ask why...might become handy at some stage???? CRAZY! And then Marc tried to explain him something about that, that I didn't even understand or haven't heard of? It was hilarious to listen, though! You did well, guys! Sara, you don't have to hold onto that beer that hard, nobody will steel it, relax :-P

Thanks guys for the awesome night, it was soooooooo good and thanks for letting me crush on your sofa- it was perfect. Hopefully we can repeat that at some stage and next time I can cook you some winter- food that suits to the season, where we don't have to freeze our bottoms off outside :) Also, enjoy your holidays!!! We sooo derserve it *thumbs up*

freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing

More than halfway through

OMG- oh my good, I'm soooo excited right now. It's nine o clock saturday night and I had my fourth of six exams tonight. It was all pretty good so far, anatomy kinda felt better than the first one but it was still really really stressfull and hard but we knew it's was going to be like that. Today I had such a bad exam.....I studied alright for Bio but as we had two exams yesterday I pretty much studied most of the stuff all day today before the exam and that is really not the best way but due to all the important exams last week there was no choice. And i was actually one of the persons who did studies beforehand and only had to review it now but it was still kinda hard. Well, the first time that I had a mind blank and I only wanted to die and go but then I said to myself "Anna, tough it up!!" It was just like that I couldnt remember anything straight away so for every single question I really had to search for the info in my head SOMEwhere and indeed, eventually I could remembered parts of it and solved most of the problems. It's probably just that the requirements are higher now and you can't solely reproduce. I was so exhausted after that....I think I never had to concentrate for that long. First studying all day from 7 am in the morning and then the exam from 6-8pm....ui! Yesterday after the huge anatomy exam we all felt so empty because we finally could "auskotzen" :-P spill out all what we've been learning for soooooo long. Now it's only massage on monday and psychology und thursday and then I'm finally done. YEAHHHHHHHH =)

exams exams exams

Ich hab also 6 tests

Mittwoch 1.

That is actually not right. I really like my work here, don't even know why....it's an average job in a canteen with lots of grease, cleaning, food preparation, cooking and serving- but I'm lovin it =) Especially because I am the supervisor- HEHE- and even more important, because I have such a good partner, Sonja, a columbian girl who shows me a lot of south-american mentality- and I'm also lovin it =) We have lots of fun together and I honestly don't mind working at all. I'm surprised myself because every job always gets annoying at some stage...thinking of my CAREER in the e-center :-P where everything over 4 hours was a pain...but here I work mondays and tuesdays after uni from 1 to 8:15 and the time always flies by. That's awesome and I get paid well, too. I can't complain... I guess you just have to be willing to do jobs that might involve scrubbing pans, sweeping the floor and that sort of stuff...and I am, especially since I was a backpacker desperate looking for jobs.

Even if I have all the responsibility, Sonja and me are a great team and I'm actually not using my position as her supervisor and we share all the work and swap the tasks....e.g. cutting a whole bucket of lettuce...that is A LOT.

As our manager is a chef she has really good knives- she's actually from Austria (told ya, Europeans are EVERYWHERE) , and when I say, really good, then I mean freakin absolutely hypersharp....no joke....they are killermachines AND they are in clumsy Anna's hands....even worse LOL. One day when our manager Andrea was about to leave, she saw me cutting...you should have seen her face :-OOOO "Annaaaaaaaaaaaa, NEVER EVER EVER EVER let your finger point towards the knife....always make a claw and hide your finertips in the salad..." Well, that day I got a lesson how to hold a knife and how to cut professionally. We are improving from week to week AND get injured from week to week :-> cuts and burns are part of our income there ;) Once I only slightly touched my finger with the knife, I didn't even put pressure on- LUCKY ME- and I cut through the glove and through my fingernail into my finger....not too bad but f****** shocking because if I had pushed the knife down really hard, my finger would be elsewhere now, but not on my hand ;)

That's "little" columbian Sonja...she is a journalist and came over to improve her English and enjoy Australia. To learn all the grammar in every day life I correct her and sometimes go like "Awesome story but now the same again in past tense" :) something she doesn't really like....it's soo amazing how much she improved in such a short period of time. That's because she is not afraid and talks to the customers and just applies the language all day long, thats great. She is awesome anyway!
Ok that was the story about Sonja and Anna making friends with the lettuce and the knife :)

Yes it's true, i finally write sth again....

Hey all!
I'm really sorry that I was kinda slack with my page and didn't really updated it :( Unlike to my easygoing lifestyle as a backpacker I now just don't have that much time anymore- uni, work and trainig is stealing my time- in a good way though! And as SOME people ;) are giving me shit for not writing anything.....dudududuuuuu here it is- voila, some lines from Anna G. herself :) I'm trying hard, promise, but alwhen I've got a spare minute I usually just can't be bothered to think about funny stories.....I will come up with some crazy stuff about Anna in Oz though. My battery is charged and my camera will be used again! To start with, just me, boring motif and even overexposed but at least SOMETING....you see...nothing has really changed, I'm happy.....I still look the same, hopefully ;) all perfect!

I've got one week of from uni at the moment for studying and then two weeks of exams are coming up. The physios got 6 exams because 3 of them are kinda practical ones. But I will tell you about that a bit more in detail later. So long I just hope that you guys are all doing well! Some of you are calling me regularly what I really find pretty f***** AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME =) doesn't cost anything so I don't even have to feel bad :-P Okie, as I only came home from work, I will leave it with that and hope that you still come by every now and then to see what little Anna is up to in Australia :)

Don't forget

HIHI ;) I just love this pic....

Love to all,
Anna
